MTV Not Taking Chances With Another Britney Spears Performance

Despite her appearance on some promotional spots for the MTV Video Music Awards, troubled singer Britney Spears will not be repeating last year's experience when she made a fool out of herself performing at the awards.

With all the positive changes in Britney's both personal and professional life, another chance at the VMAs was not that far fetched, and rumors had it she was indeed going to perform.

However, her manager, Larry Rudolph, cleared it all up for everyone, calling in Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Monday morning and announcing that "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I'm telling you officially and unequivocally," Rudolph said.

Gina Orr, a spokeswoman for Britney’s label Jive Records would neither confirm or deny that she will be absent from the VMA’s stage.

In an email to Reuters, Orr said that, "Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year’s VMAs. She’s in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."

Credited for discovering Britney Spears, Rudolph started working with the singer earlier this year after being fired last year following Britney's infamous head shaving and her trips to rehab. The two parted ways for the first time approximately three years ago, reunited in 2006 and split again several months later when Britney publicly accused him of forcing her to go to rehab.

While the news are certainly disappointing to most celebrity gossip websites, people should be glad that Britney has the right people around her again who are not looking to exploit her or push her into something she is not ready to handle yet, like it happened last year.

It was first reported that the 26-year-old might take the stage at the awards several weeks ago when her hair stylist Kim Vo allegedly told E! News that he was creating three VMA looks for the singer, hinting that one of the 'dos was for her performance.

This doesn't mean Britney won't be attending the shows, she was after all nominated for three VMAs — including "Video of the Year" — for her song "Piece of Me," and she appeared alongside British comedian Russell Brand in some cheeky TV spots promoting the September 7 show. Britney could pop up on the stage to announce nominees or even accept an award herself. Throughout her career, the singer was nominated 17 times but never won a "Moonman." This might just be Britney's lucky year.

Britney, who seems to be working really hard to get her career back on track, is working with producer Harvey Mason Jr. of The Underdogs, for her new album, which is due in "the next six to nine months," the singer recently told OK! magazine, adding that the project "is my best work ever."
