M.I.A gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday. The news came on the singer’s My Space celebrity page saying that her baby was healthy, fine and beautiful.
This is one rapper whose pregnancy has been the source of much speculation before the ceremony of the Grammy Awards, as that was the particular the baby was supposed to come. But the little one decided to wait a little longer and allowed his mom to perform “Swagga Like Us” with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I. and Kanye West without making her any problems.
According to M.I.A.’s own statement on her blog, on Sunday night she was still in the mood for partying after the Grammys but she decided to stay at home after all. Luckily she did, because her son came to meet the world around 2 a.m. He was also welcomed by his father, Benjamin Bronfman, who is a musician as well. The new happy parents have not disclosed yet their baby’s name.
M.I.A. is scheduled to perform at the Oscars on Sunday for she is nominated for her contribution to the “Slumdog Millionaire” soundtrack.
M.I.A. became famous in early 2004 through file-sharing of her singles "Galang" and "Sunshowers" on the Internet. Her debut album, “Arular,” was released just a year later and was nominated to win a Mercury Prize. Her second album, “Kala,” showed up in 2007 and gained her mainstream chart success.
