Rapper Ludacris released Wednesday a new song titled
“Politics as Usual” pledging his full support for Barack Obama and
simultaneously insulting President George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton and John
McCain, which Obama’s campaign has called “outrageously offensive.”
Talk about walking a fine line! Democratic presidential
candidate Barack Obama has Ludacris’ entire support but the rapper cannot say
the same of the politician.
Ludacris released Wednesday a song titled “Politics as Usual”
which calls President George W. Bush “mentally handicapped,” uses a misogynistic
term to describe Hillary Clinton and says Republican presidential candidate John
McCain belongs in a wheelchair, not the White House.
Ludacris’ song also urges black voters to support Barack Obama
and repeats the lyric “the world is ready for change ‘cause Obama is here.”
Barack Obama’s spokesperson Bill Burton said in a statement,
“Ludacris is a talented individual but he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”
The campaign also called the lyrics “outrageously offensive.”
Calls to Ludacris’ publicist and manager were not
immediately returned Thursday, reports the Associated Press.
Burton
reiterated Obama’s stand in the past, that is, “rap lyrics today too often
perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his
daughters or any children exposed to.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine earlier this year,
Obama described Jay-Z and Ludacris as “great talents and great businessmen.”
He has also praised hip-hop music while at the same time
tempering his eulogy, telling BET earlier this year that while “I love the art
of hip-hop; I don’t always love the message of hip-hop.”
