Television has come a long way since, let’s say, from the top of my head…“MacGyver.” This particular show was pretty daring and groundbreaking in its own way back in the day, but it only looks like a bit of a joke right now. Nowdays, TV has become more powerful than ever, but also so much more competitive and creative. In the struggle to survive on air and to have good audiences, channels have to come up with the unthinkable, the unimaginable and the unbelievable.
This is why J.J. Abrams, creator of "Lost" and "Alias" has managed to stay on board for so long, because his stories are one crazier than the other, with complicated storylines, memorable characters and plot twists, up to the point where it all seems like “The Young and the Restless” with guns, terrorists and mad scientists. “Fringe,” his latest work is about to air on FOX at 8 p.m. ET. and it is exactly what you would expect from him, and so much more.
Just to make things clearer, this is a fragment from the bios of lead character Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv):” She has assembled a task force to investigate The Pattern - a mysterious sequence of unexplained phenomena suggestive of someone or something performing experiments on the world. With the help of mad genius Walter Bishop and his estranged son Peter, she aims to bring high-tech criminals to justice, while defusing previously unimaginable threats to national security.”
J.J. Abrams’ latest is a mix of carchase and experimental, possibly deadly, science with fear, insecurity and death, topped with good performances from actors Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble. This is one of those things that keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you tired as the closing credits roll in.
