As we are back to the good all flashbacks, it seems like
Benjamin Linus is the man who is keeping all the secrets. Although it seems centered on Juliet and her life on the
island, Lost: The Other Woman is revealing new things about...Ben.
The episode starts with Juliet, who has just arrived in The
Island and is having therapy sessions with Harper, the official psychologist of
The Others. The therapy session is promptly interrupted by Tom (remember him?)
who invites Juliet to her new home on The Island.
Ben is the man who presents to Juliet her new home and
suddenly it all becomes clear: Ben is falling in love with Juliet.
Back in “our days” and on the beach, Daniel and Charlotte
are ready to go in their own mission. They quietly leave the camp, heading in
an unknown direction. As Jack finds out that the freighties are missing, he is
ready to go after them and takes Juliet with him.
But let’s not forget that we are on The Island, the best
place for mysteries. In a mysterious apparition, Harper tells Juliet that
Charlotte and Daniel are going to The Tempest, one of the Dharma stations, and
Ben has ordered that they should be stopped whatever it takes.
Juliet wonders how Ben is able to send orders as he is
Locke’s prisoner, but she gets only a mysterious answer: “He’s exactly where he
wants to be”.
And what will this be? Right…Playing win Locke’s mind! Ben
manipulates Locke to free him and in exchange he is ready to divulge everything
he knows about the freighters and his owner.
The answer is on a tape kept in a safe and labeled “Red
Sox”. (ok, this Ben guy already starts to look human: he was/is in love with
Juliet and he is a Red Sox’ fan).
As Locke watches the tape, he finds out that Charles
Widmore, Penny’s father, is the man who sent the freighter. Why? Ben has a good
explanation: Widmore knows about the “powers" of The Island and he wants
to exploit them.
Meanwhile, Daniel and Charlotte are heading back to The
Tempests, where, according to Juliet, is the main power station of The Island.
Kate bumps right into them and she discovered that they are carrying gas masks.
Charlotte
knocks her out and we are left wondering if after all, The Tempest is just a
power station. From Juliet’s flashbacks, we find out one more thing about Ben:
he’s a very, very dangerous man. (like we needed more proof!).
When Harper
finds out that Juliet is having an affair with Goodwin, her husband implores
her to end the relationship otherwise Ben will hurt him. And this is exactly
what happens. When the plane crashes on The Island, Ben sends Goodwin and, as
you might remember, Ana Lucia kills him when she discovers he is one of The
Others. Ben takes Juliet to see his body and when she accuses him, he knew what
would happen, the “Master of the Island”
answers in anger: “You’re mine”.
Once is established that Ben is the same heartless monster,
let’s go back to The Tempest plot line. Jack and Juliet find Kate and while she
tells him about gas masks, Juliet disappears in the woods. She arrives at The
Tempest where Charlotte and Daniel are struggling not to release the lethal
gas, but instead to render it useless, in order to prevent Ben from releasing
it to kill everyone on the island as he has done it already in the past. I told
you that it’s all about Ben.
As Kate and Jack arrive at the station, Juliet is ready to
reveal what we know already: she loves Jack. But watch out, Ben thinks she is
his.
And as they share a passionate kiss, we are ready for the
Grand Finale: back at the Barracks Ben is free! OK, after a full episode during
which Ben was portrayed as the evil from The Island, should I say that setting
him free is maybe Locke’s worst idea ever?
