Actress Lois Maxwell, aka Miss Moneypenny of the famous Bond
series passed away at the age of 80, on September 29, at 11:40 p.m. She died in
Australia
where she was living with her family and son, after a battle with cancer.
The Canadian-born actress played her first part along with
the 007 Sean Connery in the 1962 “Dr. No” and was her flirting companion for
more than twenty years, until the 1985 role in “A View To A Kill”, played with
Roger Moore. She played the role of the secretary of Bond’s boss, M.
Maxwell played in the first 14 James Bond movies and Moore said that, although
that she fully deserved it, it was a pity that she hadn’t been promoted to play
M’s part, adding that that might be her greatest disappointment related to the
Bond series.
In the 1987 The Living Daylights her role was taken by 26-year
Caroline Bliss, that went on also in the 1989 License to Kill, until Samantha
Bond replaced her till the 2002 Die Another Day.
Her Bond image definitely won’t be replaced though and this
is why Electronic Arts fought to win the right to use her likeness for the 2005
From Russia with Love videogame character.
But Maxwell certainly charmed millions with her talent and
charisma and both her James Bond partners and fans will feel the emptiness of
her disappearance.
She was last seen in a movie in 2001 when she played with
Jeremy Irons and Jason Priestley in The Forth Angel.
