Silicon Image has unveiled LiquidHD, a technology that will permit for different televisions to share the content from a single source. For example, one could easily play a game on his gaming console all over the house, without moving the console one inch.
LiquidHD consists of software and the SiI6100 LiquidHD display processor, which would be built into televisions and other consumer electronics products, in an effort to make the new technology more popular and more accessible. The devices will be able to communicate with one another and share audio, image and even application through the use of existing IP networks like Ethernet, coax, Powerline, or Wi-Fi.
The practical reasons behind the designing of such a technology may not be very obvious, but we live in an era where comfort is what matters, and surely LiquidHD is very convenient. You can basically do your work around the house and not stop from whatever you were doing before, whether it was watching a movie or playing a video game.
The user will have the option to take with him all over the house the entertainment method of his choice. Liquid HD chips would cost a television vendor, for example, around $15 to integrate the $10 chip into an HDTV, so it shouldn't result in an extensive increase in the cost of the set.
Silicon Image is planning to cooperate with consumer electronics manufacturers along with cable and satellite companies to make the technology widespread and, basically, accessible to anyone wanting it.
