Linkin Park's latest, Minutes to Midnight, hit the No. 1
spot this week with 623,000 copies sold, as the highest-selling album of 2007
in its debut week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was the biggest debut
week number since Jay-Z`s 'Kingdome Come' moved 680,000 last December.
Compared to previous albums, Minutes to Midnight features more
mid-tempo melodic tunes and a shift away from the group's rap-vocal elements.
"There are aspects of our music that we really used
up—we dug out all the good parts of that style and now we are moving on,"
says vocalist Chester Bennington. "It's like, we know in our minds what
we've done and where we've been, and now this is what we are going to do in the
future."
Linkin Park’s rapper Mike Shinoda said “Honestly, I’ve been
staying extra-focused on this summer’s Projekt Revolution Tour so I wouldn’t
think about the first week sales number! Whenever we create something new,
there’s always suspense before its release–at this point all I can say is a
huge, humble ‘thank-you.’”
Linkin Park kicks off its Projekt Revolution tour July
25 in Seattle, having recruited My Chemical
Romance and Placebo to headline their tour throughout North
America this summer.
