Amid the media frenzy surrounding Lindsay Lohan’s arrest on DUI and cocaine possession charges, the young actress wrote an e-mail to "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush, claiming she is innocent.

"I am innocent... did not do drugs they're not mine. I was almost hit by my assistant Tarin's mom I appreciate everyone giving me my privacy," the e-mail read.

After the 21-year-old actress was arrested yesterday morning in Santa Monica, police found cocaine in one of her pockets during a pre-booking search, Sgt. Shane Talbot said.

The police were alerted by the mother of Lohan's former personal assistant, who claimed that the star was chasing her in an SUV, Lt. Alex Padilla said. The assistant had quit hours before, he said.

When the authorities arrived, they found the two women in a "heated debate" in the parking lot of Santa Monica's Civic Auditorium at about 1:30 a.m. According to reports, Lohan was taken in by police at around 2:00 a.m. and released after she posted a $25,000 bail.

The starlet’s blood alcohol level was between .12 and .13, well over the .08 legal limit, cops told gossip web site TMZ.com.

Just last week the star, who completed a 45-day program at the Promises rehabilitation clinic in Malibu, turned herself into the Beverly Hills Police Station to be officially booked for her traffic violation in May, and the District Attorney's office was expected to formally charge her on Monday.

Since her 13 July release from rehab, Lindsay was wearing an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet and was being tested daily to support her sobriety, her attorney, Blair Berk, said. She said Lindsay had relapsed and was receiving medical care at an undisclosed location.

"Addiction is a terrible and vicious disease. Since Lindsay transitioned to outpatient care, she has been monitored on a SCRAM bracelet and tested daily in order to support her sobriety. Throughout this period, I have received timely and accurate reports from the testing companies. Unfortunately, late yesterday I was informed that Lindsay had relapsed. The bracelet has now been removed. She is safe, out of custody and presently receiving medical care," Berk said in a statement.
