As if having to deal with your father's disapproval of your personal relationships wouldn't be enough, Lindsay Lohan just lost her grandfather, who died Thursday after a long battle with colon cancer.

According to Lindsay's father, Michael, he was with Richard Lohan at the time of his death, "holding him, laying in bed with him," E!Online reported.

"Lindsay did reach out to me. She sent me a message this morning. She said, 'Now papa has found peace and maybe we can find peace in our lives, too.' "

Just earlier, last year's emotional reunion between Lindsay, who was still in rehab at the time, and her father, seemed so far away after he publicly attacked Lindsay's relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson.

"I’ve shut up about this long enough," he told E! News. "She’s using my daughter. People never even knew who Samantha Ronson was until she met Lindsay. She was just some L.A. DJ. And now she’s writing a book? I am at wit’s end with this stuff. This is not in Lindsay’s best interest," he added.

Relationships between parents and their children have always been tricky and hard to master, and celebrities make no exceptions. After being apart for years, Michael Lohan and his actress daughter famously reunited last year while Lindsay was still in rehab.

Upon Lindsay's recent relationship with Samantha Ronson, whom she is rumored to be romantically involved with, Michale has gone public with bashing their friendship and claiming Ronson has a "toxic" influence on Lindsay, despite the fact that she has only seemed to clean up under Sam’s influence.

"Lindsay doesn’t drink or use," Michael told Bush on his radio show on Wednesday. "[She] has been responsible with her work, she’s been doing a great job — however drinking and using isn’t the only form of addiction, and the relationship that Lindsay has with Samantha is toxic," he said, calling Ronson a "parasite" who is using his daughter.

Lindsay’s dad is an ex con who served a nearly three years in prison out of a four year sentence for multiple charges including assault and DUI. He was released from Collins Correctional Facility outside of Buffalo, NY in March of 2007.

Since being spotted more and more hanging out with Ronson, Lindsay's demons certainly seemed at bay, and she even appears to be healthy and devoted to their relationship, the first relationship she has had in years that seems to be stable.

However, her dad can's stop talking about how much he worries for Lindsay, using various shifting reasons that include the booze she’s supposedly drinking despite the lack of evidence and the antidepressants she might be on, while claiming Lindsay's relationship with Ronson is not a sexual one, and he doesn't think his daughter is a lesbian.

"Absolutely not," he said. "She dated guys her whole life, she has a relationship with Sam and it’s a friendship because she’s been hurt by so many guys in the past maybe she kind of walked away and found solace and companionship in a girl.
"I don’t believe it’s anything more than a friendship they have," he continued, "but that’s between Lindsay and God, and Samantha and God."

Yesterday, both Sam and Lindsay struck back at her dad with entries on their myspace blogs, accusing him of being a "public embarrassment and a bully" who is addicted to fame and using them to get publicity.

 Moreover, Michael is using his father's death as yet another chance to bad mouth his ex wife, Dina.

"My father just, literally, died in my arms. I notified all my kids and my lawyer notified Dina’s attorney. Let’s see if she has the decency and respect to bring my kids to the wake and funeral," he was quoted by OK! as saying. "THIS will show her true colors! Thus, not even a call. But that’s par for the course with Dina! She didn’t even send a card or visit when he was sick."
