Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan has reportedly checked out of the rehab facility where she spent the past couple of months.
People magazine announces on its website that 21-year-old Lindsay Lohan has left the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, where she has been recovering from her addiction problems since August.
Mom Dina Lohan told the magazine, “I'm proud of her. She's moving ahead with her life. Things were getting out of control. She took action. She took responsibility. She really needed to heal.”
Before checking into rehab, Lindsay herself publicly acknowledged her need to receive professional help, through the following statement: “It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.”
She admitted she was ashamed of her behavior and that she wanted to assume responsibility for her actions.
“I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life. Luckily, I am not alone in my daily struggle and I know that people like me have succeeded. Maybe with time it will become easier. I hope so.”
Sources tell People that Lindsay finished the rehabilitation program some time ago but chose to spend more time at the center.
Last week, the freckled actress spent several days with her estranged father, Michael Lohan, who visited her in Utah. Michael had visited his daughter before at the facility.
He too praised Lindsay to People magazine, saying “I’m enjoying my time with Lindsay and I'm happy to see and believe she's the Lindsay I last saw three years ago.”
The 21-year-old is also reportedly preparing to return to work.
In late August, shortly before Lindsay checked in the Utah-based rehab center, she was sentenced to1 day in jail, three years of probation and 10 days of community service.
The L.A. County District Attorney had filed seven misdemeanor charges against the actress: two counts each for driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol count of more than .08 percent, being under the influence of cocaine and one count of reckless driving.
The D.A. allegedly did not charge Lindsay with felonies for several reasons: her cocaine traces “were below the .05 grams required by office policy for felony filing,” therefore not qualifying for a felony charge; being arrested twice during a relatively short period of time indicated to law enforcers that she was struggling with an addiction.
Also, being only 21 and having been raised in quite an unstable environment, as well as her recent visits to rehabilitation facilities determined prosecutors to not file felony charges.
At the time, celebrity gossip site TMZ quoted a law enforcement source explaining: “Prosecutors in this county see a lot of kids in crisis. There are lots of kids struggling with addiction. The first sign of trouble usually involves a car. We're not going to throw every one of them in prison. It doesn't make sense.”
Lindsay pleaded guilty to the charges.
