Young actress Lindsay Lohan has political opinions just like
everyone else. As it happens, she supports Democratic candidate Barack Obama
but the Illinois Senator apparently does not want to be associated with her.
Lindsay Lohan does not use her MySpace blog only to have
verbal confrontations with her father or to defend friend Samantha Ronson. She
also uses her blog for political commentary.
Earlier this week, Lohan shared her opinions on Alaska
Governor Sarah Palin with the public, negative ones because of Palin’s views on
homosexuality. She called the politician a “narrow-minded, media-obsessed
homophobe.”
One politician Lohan does approve of is Democratic candidate
Barack Obama, for whom she reportedly offered to host a series of events encouraging
young voters to choose him.
Chicago Sun-Times gossip columnist Bill Zwecker writes he’s
been told by “a top source in the Barack Obama team” that Lindsay Lohan’s wish
may not come true, as she “is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who
would be a positive for us.”
Poor Lindsay Lohan, always to be remembered for her troubled
recent past, the drugs, the alcohol, the arrests, the rehab. And yes, for those
troubled parents of hers.
Republican candidate Jon McCain’s camp is apparently aware
of Lohan’s alleged offer to support Barack and his alleged refusal and has
indeed something to say about this. Why? Because.
Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for the McCain campaign,
caustically told celebrity gossip site TMZ, “So let me get this straight, they
turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant
terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too
upstanding for Barack Obama.”
To which Tommy Vietor, Obama’s spokesperson, told the same
site, in the same caustic tone, “Glad to see they’re focused on the important
issues over in McCain HQ.”
While the big boys continue their war of words, Lindsay
Lohan will probably be busy attending some of the Hollywood
fundraising parties she has been invited to this week, joining fellow Obama
supporters such as Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg and David Geffen.
