Looks like rapper Lil Wayne couldn't be happier: he nabbed the top honors at the BET Hip-Hop Awards and he is preparing to welcome a son "any day now," MTV reported.
During his acceptance speech on Saturday night's BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony, the musician announced that his first son will be born in a couple of days, MTV reported.
"I got a son about to be born any day now, so shout-out to him. Pray for me," he said while receiving the award for Lyricist of the Year. Wayne also urged the crowd at the BET Awards to vote in November. No word on whether he personally will be voting, or even can, considering his record.
The 26-year-old musician is already a father to Reginae Carter, 8, his daughter with high his school sweetheart, Antonia "Toya" Johnson. It is yet unconfirmed whether Toya is carrying his second child.
Lil Waybe, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., received 12 nominations and three awards, including the Alltel Wireless People's Champ and MVP of the year over Jay-Z, Kanye West and T.I., who unlike last year when he was arrested just hours before the show after trying to buy a batch of semi-automatic guns and silencers, managed to show up for this year's event. He pleaded guilty earlier this year and is to be sentenced in March.
The rapper also announced that he is about to release a new version of his album "The Carter III." The album was first released in June, but the rapper said he has some new songs to add.
Other musicians such as DJ Khaled, Young Jeezy, Ludacris and Busta Rhymes, were also honored during the awards presented Saturday night at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. Russell Simmons was honored as a hip-hop icon at the event, and recognized as a philanthropic inspiration to other artists. His award was presented by veteran rapper LL Cool J. Another artist who grabbed an award is Shawty Lo, who walked away with "Rookie of the Year" putting aside Ace Hood, Flo Rida, Maino, and Rocko.
The Atlanta show, which was hosted by T-Pain, rather than scheduled host, comedian Katt Willians, featured performances from Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, Salt-N-Pepa, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Fat Joe, Birdman and Rick Ross. Other heavy names who appeared at the event included 50 Cent, Keri Hilson, Big Boi, Keyshia Cole, and Ciara. The complete list of winners will be revealed when the awards show will air on October 23 on BET.
