Thursday, “Late
Show” host David Letterman expressed his annoyance at the fact that John McCain
had cancelled his scheduled for Wednesday appearance on the show, by verbally lashing
out at the presidential candidate every chance he got.
The night
before, Letterman had informed the audience that the Republican Party’s
presidential nominee had decided to suspend his campaign in order to deal with
the economic crisis, adding that McCain’s statement did not “smell right” to
him.
Keith Olbermann, MSNBC „Countdown” host was the one who
Letterman invited on his show when the GOP nominee for president of the
United States announced he would be a no-show. The host’s choice did not come
as much surprise, since Olberman’s hour-long news and commentary program is
often sprinkled with harsh criticism of the 2008 Republican presidential
nominee John McCain.
During the late-night talk show, David Letterman stated he
was disconcerted to hear that McCain had not left New York until Thursday. Moreover,
he was further vexed by the latter’s interview with Katie Couric- the
anchor-woman of the CBS Evening News-which took place on Wednesday, when the
senior United States Senator from Arizona was scheduled to appear on the "Late
Show."
Letterman told the audience he had felt like a patriot when
McCain bowed out of his show to attend to economic issues, but that in the
light of the aforementioned information about the candidate’s interview and
departure, he was then feeling like an "ugly date."
On the presidential nominee’s side, John McCain’s
spokesperson stated on NBC’s "Today" show that the decision to cancel on Letterman’s "Late Show" was based on the fact that McCain did not feel it was a good night
for comedy.
