Apple has recently sent invitations to some members of the
media for an event titled only “Let’s Rock” set for September 9th, San Francisco time. Apple,
who is known for such bombastic advertising stratagems, has in the past
launched such events that turned out to be product presentations. One thing is
discernable from the invitation though: the event is going to be about iPods.
Speculation is rampant among journalists as to exactly what
new products will be unveiled at the event, but some recurring themes appear
and these are Top 3 most plausible:
- A 64 GB version of the iPod Touch, as well as a price cut.
The iPod Touch needs to be differentiated from the iPhone which not only is due
for a 32GB storage upgrade later this year but also has, as of now, a lower
starting price than the Touch, which for its price does not include some of the
features like, say, the phone.
- A sideways-screened version of the iPod Nano. Ever since
Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg, has posted his “leaked”
photo of this possible new iPod, it’s been the talk of the town. If it is
true, then here is where it will be unveiled
- Software updates for the iPhone. The iPhone’s manifold 3G problems as well as the
serious double-tap
security flaw will need to be accounted for.
- Other revisions to
the iPod Classic, Touch and Shuffle.
Also, according to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is working
with music industry members to produce “interactive albums” which add lyrics,
photographs, liner notes and other supplemental material to enrich and complete
albums, and will be available through the iTunes store.
The first known example
is one such interactive album by the band Snow Patrol. This interesting new
feature is also a likely candidate for the event.
However this is all ultimately anyone’s guess up until the 9th.
We will give a full report when it happens, till then we’re looking forward to
it.
