Lenovo Unveils Next-Gen Rival For MacBook Air: ThinkPad X301

Lenovo has taken the next step towards implementing superior features into its MacBook Air rival, the ThinkPad X300. The ThinkPad X301 is an upgraded version of the X300, which combines the light and thin design with cutting-edge features and improved performance.

The ultrathin ThinkPad X300 notebook was launched with a 1.8-inch 64GB SSD, the latest Intel Centrino with vPro technology, as well as up to 4GB memory and Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Technologies. Compared to previous models, the X300 also came with 35 percent lower power consumption capabilities.

The newest member to the ultrathin, full-function Lenovo notebooks, the ThinkPad X301, offers even more capacity storage (either 64GB or 128GB solid state driver capacity), as well as 20 percent improved performance compared to X300 due to its DDR3 memory and Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low volt processor.

“Lenovo continues to push the technology envelope by giving road warriors the latest enhancements in solid state drive storage and digital display technologies,” Lenovo’s vice president of worldwide product marketing Sam Dusi said about the ThinkPad X301.

Speaking of display, the ThinkPad X301 comes with a 13.3-inch LED backlit display; in addition to that, it comes with support for DisplayPort and VGA, making high-definition content viewing possible on multiple displays.

Furthermore, the latest addition to the ThinkPad X300 family offers wireless connectivity, with support for high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi for wireless Internet connections, as well as Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband technology that enables wireless connection to other devices.

According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad X301 offers up to 250 percent improved uplink performance with AT&T mobile broadband over previous models. Later this year, WiMAX-supporting models will also be made available by Lenovo.

The pricing for the ThinkPad X301 will start at approximately $2,599, with the first models coming up on August 26 on the computer maker’s official website, www.lenovo.com, as well as at its business partners.
