Amid rumors about the possibility of a world tour following the band’s upcoming comeback performance in London, Led Zeppelin insisted that have no plans beyond O2 arena performance.
Rumors about Led Zeppelin’s plans to go on tour in 2008 strengthened over the last week after The Cult lead singer, Ian Astbury, announced from the stage at a show in Cincinnati last Saturday that his band would be back on the road next year to play in the opening of Led Zeppelin gigs.
"We'll be back next year because we're opening for a band you might have heard of. The name starts with 'L' and has a 'Z' in it," he said, nodding when the crowd shouted "Led Zeppelin."
However, a spokesperson for Led Zeppelin insisted that "No decision has been made beyond the band's performance at the O2 arena. Maybe Ian got mixed up and they're supporting Limp Bizkit!"
The three surviving members of the British rock band, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones together with Jason Bonham(son of the band’s late drummer John Bonham), are set to appear at an all-star tribute show for former Atlantic Records' founder Ahmet Ertegun at the O2 Arena on December 10. It will mark the band’s first performance together in 27 years.
"I suppose something like a Zeppelin reunion wouldn't be right without a bit of drama," the silver-haired 63-year-old Led Zeppelin guitarist told Reuters in an interview, referring to his broken finger accident.
"I'll tell you now, this is 2-1/2 weeks from the injury and there we are, it's doing that," he said, holding up and moving the injured finger.
"It's going to be fine for the concert.
"I'm able to do what I ought to be able to do, it's just a bit bruised and a it's bit painful still, but with this two weeks' postponement ... it's going to be fine."
The band recently launched its official website LedZeppelin.com which is expected to become the ultimate destination for all Led Zeppelin fans, old and new, as well a fast and safe way to keep the world up-to-date on Led Zeppelin's activities.
In the past, Plant has been known for being reluctant to a reunion tour, while Page has expressed enthusiasm for the idea. Back in 2003, Page told Billboard magazine he would "be positive and say that maybe it could be. I think really we'd need to see how we got on in every respect. And you've got to make sure that the music is jelling, and the personalities are jelling. But you know, who knows? Everything is possible!"
