Leanne Marshall may have been crowned the winner of the fifth season of “Project Runway,” but one thing’s certain: Korto Momolu made the best impression. The Liberia-born mother of one made quite an impression with her collection to Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and surprise guest judge Tim Gunn.
As expected, Korto Momolu was designated fan favorite.
It was a fun day for the fashion world as it watched the collections of Leanne, Korto and Kenley (the finalists) under the tents of Bryant Park, which house New York Fashion Week.
“It’s a Project Runway first to have all three women in the finale and it’s pretty awesome,” said 28-year-old Leanne Marshall. “But I’m gonna be a fighter until I’m the last one standing on that stage.”
And the 28-year-old Portland, Oregon was right. Her collection which was inspired by waves and ocean colors was the winner and also closed the show in the tents of Bryant Park. Marshall said she was living a dream she had since she was 12 years.
Despite the fact that it didn’t went as smoothly as she would have wanted – an over-steamed shirt stretched out and didn’t fit one of her models – Marshall closed the show in a positive tone:
“This is my beautiful collection. I’ve lost millions of hours of sleep over and I’m in love with it,” she told the attendance.
Marshall won a prize of $100,000 in seed money to start her fashion line. The graduate of The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco already has a line called Leanimal.
