Leaked Information about Dell Adamo

These days, the net has been filled with rumors about a new line-up from Dell. Digging through Dell’s website and information cached by Google revealed that the new Adamo might be an ultraportable computer. The new laptop might be in the MacBook Air fashion and will certainly be the company’s attempt to steal some of Apple’s stylish and paper-thin laptops market share.

The most recent information came from Google’s cache of Dell’s laptop accessory catalog. Some of the items included 250/500GB 5400 rpm SATA external hard disk drives and external DVD-combo units. Along with these external units, the catalog offered HDMI and DVI-out dongles. So, what do all these things have in common? Well, the catalog points out that these items are available for the “adamo, thirteen” which makes us believe that the new laptop from Dell should have multimedia capabilities and a solid state drive (SSD), along with its thin appearance.

Earlier rumors stated that the Adamo is expected to be an ultraportable, ultrathin laptop which Dell hopes it would take some of Apple’s popular MacBook Air market share. The rumor started when the fashion website UptownLife stated that Dell is going to release a notebook (the Adamo) “that will rival the MacBook Air." Meanwhile, the article was removed from UptownLife’s website, but the rumor is still there, and according to Michael Tatelman, vice president of consumer sales and marketing at Dell, the company has to get “some iconic products out there.” As many users think of Dell as bulky, corporate computers, “sleek” may be the key for Dell’s new line-up.

Another source was cited by Engadget, which claimed that Dell will soon go out with Adamo, which will be marketed as “the world’s thinnest laptop.” Furthermore, it looks like the new computer will be released no sooner than February 2009.

Another possibility is that Adamo would be Dell’s flagship as the greenest computer, because the company has stressed in several occasions that greener and more energy-effective electronics are very important.

For the moment, all we know is that the Adamo might share its design with the new Studio XPS 13 notebook, which features a minimalistic design and leather on a part of its screen lid.
