Even though Amazon.com dismissed all rumors about this year’s release of the Kindle 2, new info surfaced on the matter and the new upgraded device seems to be already completed and ready to go.
Boy Genius Report managed to get a hold on a set of pictures with the new product, which presents a new design with different buttons. The design was considered one of Kindle’s low points and the company decided to turn it around and make it a lot more attractive.
The device will be offered with the same off-white color combination, its size is the same as the old model but it is significantly thinner. It uses the same Sprint cellular EV-DO network for its downloads and it comes with a new leather carrying pouch.
There are buttons for Home, Next Page, Undo and a joystick which takes the place of the scroll wheel. They were built smaller to keep users from accidentaly turning the page.
Boy Genius Report commented on the redesigned keyboard, saying that it has a good layout, but it would have been better if the lettering on the keys would have been darker.
There is also a headphone jack and up and down volume buttons. One of the device’s best new features is its ability to be charged with a mini USB cable.
So far, the company did not comment on these reports and there are no details about the official release of the new Kindle or about its cost. Amazon.com will probably respond to these news to confirm or infirm the information.
