The financial crisis has affected us all, starting from the economy and the wealthy, down to the common man losing his home. Times are hard and this reality is no stranger to NBC, which is forced to give up 500 of their employees. Layoffs are being made in the Dallas and Burbank bureaus, 500 people meaning approximately 3% of NBC’s work force.
Among the correspondents who have been let go include Don Teague and Mark Mullen, rumors suggest. NBC will also terminate the show “The Big Idea” as they think it is not appropriate for a show about success and money to be shown during a black time like this.
The economic crisis can be fixed but time is needed. Until then people have to do their best and hold on. The layoffs at NBC include 50 cuts at the local media group, 70 on the Universal side of the operations including the film studio but also the parks and distribution; as well as at least 30 at NBC News.
NBC, The National Broadcasting Company, is available in an estimated 112 million households, or 98.6% of the country. NBC has 10 owned-and-operated stations and nearly 200 affiliates in the United States and its territories. This makes some wonder what will happen to the other TV stations and when will they give signs that the economic crisis is affecting them as well.
If more people will lose their jobs, because companies just can’t afford to keep them, the situation might get even worse, as jobless people are a country’s worst nightmare.
