During an
interview on Tuesday with the Associated Press, first lady Laura Bush revealed
that she was planning to write a memoir and that she had also met with several
publishers with regards to her project.
For the
meetings with the publishers, which are highly confidential, Laura Bush has
chosen Washington attorney Robert Barnett to represent her, the latter having
previously served clients such as former president of the United States Bill
Clinton and wife Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, as well as Senator Edward
Kennedy.
The first lady has also worked with Barnett when she and
daughter Jenna co-authored a children’s book about a boy who didn’t like to
read, which was based on the women’s experience as teachers.
A publishing executive has revealed for the Associated Press
that Laura Bush would write a non-critical, positive work, thus meaning she
would not be taking a leaf out of Nancy Reagan’s „My Turn” book, through which
she set the record straight with some of her enemies, including former White
House chief of staff Donald Regan.
Hillary
Clinton also published an autobiography called “Living History” back in 2003,
for which publisher Simon & Schuster paid an $8 million advance as early as December
2000.
The former
first lady was reported to have used three ghostwriters for her memoir, Maryanne
Vollers, speechwriter Alison Muscatine and researcher Ruby Shamir.
Laura and Jenna Bush’s children’s book „Read All About It!”
was published by HarperCollins last spring and so far, it has sold 77,000
copies, according to Nielsen BookScan, a data provider for the book industry.
