Rapper Kanye West started his weekend's performance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee two hours late prompting jeers and boos from the concert goers.
Although Kanye's Sunday performance scheduled for 2:45 a.m. was delayed due to circumstances beyond the rapper's control, that didn't stop the huge crowd from chanting "Kanye sucks" and throwing glow sticks on the empty stage.
It turns out, the delay was caused by technical problems with disabling the set for Pearl Jam, who'd gone on right before and played an hour late, plus it took a long time to bring on Kanye's elaborate backdrop, festival spokesman Ken Weinstein explained for the Associated Press.
The Grammy-award winner was initially supposed to take the stage at 8:15 p.m. but he switched slots so he could make the best of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour's lightning shows, which depict him as a space traveler whose ship crash-lands. Midway through his performance, the morning light showed that the crowd had dwindled substantially.
The four-day festival, which gathered over 70,000 people who witnessed performances from Metallica, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and comedian Chris Rock, was otherwise punctual.
Later Sunday, the Bonnaroo crowd was still upset. Pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph criticized West for disappointing his fans.
The 31-year-old rapper, who failed to even apologize for his tardiness, could not be reached for comment.
