A judge on Friday dropped the charges brought against Marion Knight, known as Suge, the hip-hop magnate who founded Death Row Records. “Suge” Knight was arrested back in August when police officers found him beating Melissa Isaac while holding a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip.
The drugs and battery charges against “Suge” Knight were dismissed Friday after prosecutors told the court that they were having trouble gathering evidence and had “witness problems" as well.
According to Knight’s attorney, David Chesnoff, the prosecution had "discovery problems and witness problems.”
Knight was charged on November 18 with two felonies and one misdemeanor for allegedly smacking around his girlfriend. After being arrested, Knight was released after posting $19,000 bail.
Police investigators found Ecstasy and hydrocodone in the man’s vehicle. After receiving the beating, Knight’s lady friend was treated at a nearby hospital for unspecified injuries. Knight was on top of the woman when police
arrived and he was violently beating her, holding a knife in his hand. According to court documents, the woman wasn't stabbed.
However, the Clark County District Attorney's Office dismissed the charges "without prejudice," which means it can reopen the case when the current problems are solved. A notice filed by the district attorney's office clearly indicates that it may try to reopen the case by seeking a grand jury indictment, said Clark County Court spokesman Michael Sommermeyer according to The Los Angeles Times.
For the battery and drug possession charges brought against him, “Suge Knight” faced mandatory probation and up to four years in a Nevada state prison on each of the drug charges.
“Suge” Knight has a history of legal problems. In August,
he was formally accused of sending death threats to an inmate, Waymond “Suave” Anderson, to modify his
testimony regarding the 1997 death of The Notorious B.I.G.
