Warner Brothers has recently confirmed that it was planning to relaunch the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise, still the third movie of the series would not be featuring actress Angelina Jolie.
The Hollywood Reporter said that the following production was aimed at completely rebooting the video-game-based character, which would even entail altering the leading character’s origin story, along with introducing new types of missions, villains and love affairs.
Nevertheless, the biggest change is that Angelina Jolie will not be portraying Lara Croft anymore. The producers said that they would not be casting an actress for the role until they had signed with a writer and a director, still the blogosphere is speculating that the most likely choice is Megan Fox.
The first two installments, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, were produced by Paramount, yet the rights to the franchise have been reverted back to video game supplier Eidos.
Back in December, Time Warner increased its stake in the above-mentioned company, which entailed that the Warner Bros. studio was the first one to take on the Lara Croft franchise.
The original movie was released in 2001 and managed to make $275 million worldwide, whereas the sequel debuted in 2003 and brought in $157 million.
The video game series was rolled out in 1996 and it has since then come into earnings of over $1 billion.
