Although she and French actor Olivier Martinez have split, Kylie is defending him against “harassment� and “vitriol.�

The petite Australian singer has expressed her opposition to the general criticism Olivier has been subjected to these past few weeks. Their separation has come amidst rumors of Olli’s unfaithfulness to Kylie.

Being seen embracing Oscar-nominated Penelope Cruz has been no help either. As it is, the Spanish actress has denied rumors about pairing up with Olivier, explaining that they’re simply good friends.

Penelope told the Daily Mirror, “Olivier and I have been friends for seven years, we are very close. You can understand that it's a difficult time for him right now, so I have been there for him to offer support. And it was lovely seeing him the other day, it has been such a long time.�

Kylie has posted a message on her Web site, asking fans to be nice to her ex. “As for the treatment Olivier has received of late, I can only reiterate that he simply does not deserve the kind of harassment or vitriol to which he has been subjected.�

The singer also denies claims that Olivier was unfaithful during their relationship, which reportedly ended when Olivier chose elephant polo over joining Kylie on her comeback tour. “For someone whom I have enormous love and respect, and communicate with, it is so grossly unfair: to demonize an honest man. I would ask of you, my fans, to show your support for both Olli and myself as a separation is never easy.�
