Kristen Bell Visits Rome at Disney’s Invitation

“Veronica Mars” star Kirsten Bell has signed on to star in the Disney romantic comedy “When in Rome,” trade paper Variety reports.

Kristen Bell made a name for herself as the resourceful high school detective Veronica Mars in the teen drama series of the same name, which aired on UPN and then the CW, from fall of 2004 to May 2007.

Bell then joined the uniquely gifted champions of NBC’s drama series “Heroes,” and now she is taking the leap to Hollywood movies. Bell has signed on to star in “When in Rome,” a romantic comedy that Mark Steven Johnson will direct for Disney.

The script has been penned by Johnson and tells the story of a successful New York real estate agent (Bell) who has no luck in love. She finds herself traveling to Rome, to attend her younger sister’s surprise wedding, and unwittingly creates the onset of adventure in her own life by picking up coins from a reputed “fountain of love.” Back home, she is confronted with an overabundance of suitors waiting for, Variety reports.

Gary Foster, Rikki Bestall and Andrew Panay are producing. Disney intends to start shooting in late March, in New York and Rome.

Johnson’s screen credits include writing the scripts for such comic book-inspired movies as “Electra,” “Daredevil” and “Ghost Rider.” The last two he also directed.

Bell next appears in the Judd Apatow-produced and written comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” for Universal, alongside Jason Segel. She will also appear in “Fanboys,” a Weinstein Co. comedy about a group of friends who share a love for the Star Wars phenomenon.

Kristen Bell joined the ensemble cast of “Heroes,” including Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Ali Larter and Greg Grunberg, for its second season on NBC, and portrays Elle Bishop.
