The famous black Pontiac Trans Am
that helped David Hasselhoff escape enemies on the popular 1980s series Knight Rider
is currently up for sale on eBay. The car was made in 1984 and it was a real
estate developer’s property until last year, when the man was killed.
Despite developer Andrew Kissel’s
killing hasn’t been yet solve, his creditors claimed he had owed them no less
than $30 million. Thus Kissel’s boats, cars and other valuable items, including
the popular Knight Rider car, were put up for sale to satisfy the late car aficionado’s
debts.
However, the popular “talking” KITT
seems not to have too many (rich) fans, as only one bid – for the $20,000
minimum – had been posted on eBay as of Thursday. Even late Andrew Kissel’s
attorney, Patrick R. Gil, was surprised by this fact. “I’m a little surprised
because it is a unique car,” said Gil, who is also the administrator of Kissel’s
estate. "My understanding is that there were only four of them made
specifically for the television series. I expected some 'Knight Rider' lovers
to jump on it,” added Patrick R. Gil.
Another original KITT was put up
for sale back in April by a California
auto dealer. The car had been previously fully restored and had documentation
as one of the four “camera cars” used for close-ups where young David
Hasselhoff, who played Michael Knight, was behind the wheel. According to its
former owner, the 1982 car sold in July for no less than $100,000, down from
the initial price of $149,995.
Andrew Kissel was found dead in
April 2006 just a few days before he was to plead guilty in a
multimillion-dollar real estate fraud case. He seems to have bought his KITT in
2005, for $69,000.
