"Kit Kittredge: An American Doll" has all the chances of becoming this summer’s hit among little girls. The movie will have its official release on July 2, and is the first movie so far to be inspired by the American Girl dolls.
"Kit Kittredge" stars Abigail Breslin, who got an academy nomination for her role in ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ and explores the events of the Great Depression of the ‘30s through Kit’s eyes.
Kit Kittredge lives in a nice neighborhood where she and her family lead a good life. But as the Great Depression strikes the country, her neighbors are facing foreclosures and unemployment, and her father has to go to Chicago to look for a better job that would allow them to get over the difficult moment.
Kit remains home with her mother, who starts renting rooms in their house for all kinds of people, among them a dancer and a magician.
Kit is fascinated by the whole thing and starts writing a series of articles that she sends to a newspaper in hope of starting a career as a journalist, which is her dream. But things turn bad when her house is robbed by hobos who take all their money. Now Kit must gather her friends and try to find the guys who did that in order for her and her mother to be able to keep their house.
Even though the movie is addressing a younger audience, the cuteness of Abigail’s character, as well as the very well balanced story might make adults enjoy it too.
