Kirstie Alley is upset over rumors that she has regained some of the weight she lost on Jenny Craig and that this is why she relinquished her spokeswoman status. She also says she will sue one particular magazine over such claims.
Kirstie Alley’s waistline and body contour have been of public interest for some time now, initially because both kept expanding and then because she revealed her improved silhouette on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show one fine day in November 2006.
Earlier this week, the 57-year-old actress announced that she would no longer act like Jenny Craig’s spokesperson, and that she would instead focus on launching her own weight-loss brand next year.
Alley began her collaboration with the weight-loss company some three years ago and wholeheartedly advertised its programs. During her appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2006, she donned a bikini outfit and revealed to the audience her slimmer, minus-75-pounds figure.
As to the recent rumors that the real reason behind her decision to forego duties as Jenny Craig representative, Alley told USA Today Wednesday that they are “not true.”
“In January, when I wasn't the Jenny Craig spokesperson anymore, I gained about 10 pounds, which I would attribute to being like a kid in a candy store,” the actress said. “For about four weeks, I had 10 extra pounds on me, but I have since taken it off.”
She further explained that the company’s intentions to go in a “different direction” with advertising convinced her that she was not “the right person” for that.
“For the past three years, I've written most of the commercials. All the commercials I did were based on comedy and self-deprecation. That's my forte,” the former star of “Cheers” and “Fat Actress” explained, referring to Queen Latifah’s recent embarkment.
The future Jenny Craig ads featuring Queen Latifah will focus on encouraging a healthier lifestyle.
Alley meanwhile is very upset with the tabloid material recently produced, consisting in speculations that the weight-loss program ultimately did not work for her, that she has gained back weight and that is why she and the Jenny Craig company actually parted ways.
She talked to USA Today about the Feb. 25 issue of the National Enquirer, that claims she was fired for putting on weight, commenting that the article is “hurtful and harmful to me.”
“I'm going to litigate. It's chronic and has been chronic for the last three years. This one is extremely damaging.”
Other than litigating, Alley is also confident in her own weight-loss brand. “I do have ideas that I want to implement, and I think I have good ideas.”
The mother of two wants to help “change a fat America back into a fit America,” offering the country “the healthiest, yummiest, easiest and most effective weight-loss program on the market.”
