Actor Kiefer Sutherland joins the abundant ranks of celebrities arrested for drunk driving, after being spotted by LA police officers making an illegal U-turn early Tuesday.

The 40-year-old actor was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning in West Hollywood on suspicion of DUI, according to media reports.

TMZ quotes police sources that say Sutherland was pulled over shortly after 1 a. m. on the corner of La Cienega and Beverly. Police officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn.

He was arrested on misdemeanor drunk driving charges after failing a field sobriety test, police officials said, and transported to the Hollywood Police station. He was released a few hours later, after posting $25,000 bail.

According to the celebrity gossip site’s sources, the actor was “cooperative and mellow” while in custody.

This is Sutherland’s second DUI in the past five years, following a 2004 arrest. If convicted, he could serve a minimum of five days in jail.

According to media reports, he has been scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.

Kiefer Sutherland has been enjoying the success of his Fox drama series “24,” where he plays the heroic Jack Bauer. The show’s seventh season is set to debut in January.

The actor has won several awards for his work on the series, including an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2006, as well as one Golden Globe, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards in previous years.

Come January, fans of “24” will be able to see actress-comedian Janeane Garofalo co-star in the new season, as a government agent investigating a crisis that Jack Bauer and his team are faced with.

Actress Cherry Jones also signed a deal in July to play President Allison Taylor. “24” was set to start production for its new season on Sept. 10, after two delays due to changes in the story line.
