Just hours after his DUI arrest, Kiefer Sutherland made a good impression at the Canadian consulate in Los Angeles where he was honored with the Excellence Award by a Canadian actors union, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA). Gordon Clapp from "NYPD Blue," who was among the guests, said "He was fine, he was good. He was very affable with everyone and happy to see everybody." He also told AP that the actor did not mention the arrest.
It appears that Sutherland isn't really into the "run to rehab" trend and just continues to do what he would normally be doing, with one notable exception (see below).
Kiefer Sutherland was spotted by LA police officers making an illegal U-turn early Tuesday. The 40-year-old actor was arrested early Tuesday morning in West Hollywood on suspicion of DUI. Apparently, Sutherland was pulled over shortly after 1 a. m. on the corner of La Cienega and Beverly. Police officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn.
He was arrested on misdemeanor drunk driving charges after failing a field sobriety test, police officials said, and transported to the Hollywood Police station. He was released a few hours later, after posting $25,000 bail. The actor was allegedly "cooperative and mellow" while in custody.
However, E! Online reported that Sutherland was back on the set of his countdown drama Wednesday morning. However, he had to cancel, quite understandably, his appearance at the True Blue fundraiser for the Los Angeles Police Foundation Saturday. His place was quickly taken by none other than Ron Howard.
This is Sutherland’s second DUI in the past five years, following a 2004 arrest. If convicted, he could serve a minimum of four days in jail and a maximum of one year in jail on probation violation charges. He has been scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
Kiefer Sutherland has been enjoying the success of his Fox drama series "24," where he plays the heroic Jack Bauer. The show’s seventh season is set to debut in January.
The actor has won several awards for his work on the series, including an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2006, as well as one Golden Globe, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards in previous years. Starting in January, fans of "24" will be able to see actress-comedian Janeane Garofalo co-star in the new season, as a government agent investigating a crisis that Jack Bauer and his team are faced with. Actress Cherry Jones also signed a deal in July to play President Allison Taylor. "24" was set to start production for its new season on Sept. 10, after two delays due to changes in the story line.
