Kid Rock's "Rock N Roll Jesus" Tops Charts

Kid Rock’s most recent studio album, “Rock n Roll Jesus,” reigned over charts this week, selling 172,000 copies, according to the latest SoundScan numbers.

Kid Rock dethroned Bruce Springsteen’s “Magic,” last week’s no. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming the rapper/rocker’s first No. 1 in 17 years of career. His previous four albums made it in the Top 10 chart, with 2000’s “The History of Rock” peaking at No. 2.

The Boss’s “Magic,” is latest effort with the E Street Band, fell to number two on 133,000 copies in its second week, while country band Rascal Flatts’ “Still Feels Good” slipped to No. 3 with 96,000 sold copies.

Country singer LeAnn Rimes' “Family” debuts at No. 4, after selling 74,000 copies, her 12th charting effort on the Billboard 200. Matchbox Twenty's “Exile on Mainstream,” combining new material with some of the band’s greatest hits, falls to No. 5 in its second week after selling another 72,000 copies.

At No. 6, we find Kanye West's “Graduation,” which sold another 71,000 albums this week. Reba McEntire’s “Reba Duets” does slightly better than last week, climbing one spot to No. 7, with 68,000, while fellow country singer Sara Evans debuts at No. 8 with “Greatest Hits,” selling 66,000.

Disney's “High School Musical 2” soundtrack is at No. 9, with 66,000 sold copies, while Josh Groban's holiday album “Noel” debuts at No. 10 with sales of 64,000.

Jennifer Lopez’s latest effort, “Brave,” debuts at No. 12, with sales of 53,000. Billboard.com notes that all of J-Lo’s previous six studio albums, including this year's Spanish-language “Como Ama Una Mujer,” debuted in the top 10, with four of those peaking in the top two places.

Alter Bridge released “Blackbird” to no. 13, with 47,000, while Eric Clapton's “Complete Clapton” debuted at No. 14 with 45,000.

Kid Rock famously hit Tommy Lee in September at the MTV Video Music Awards. Lee allegedly provoked Rock, texting him obscene messages, until Rock hit him. Pamela Anderson, former wife to both bad boys, was also present, in a characteristically revealing dress.

Kid Rock later commented that, had he known his altercation with the Motley Crüe drummer would generate such a buzz, he would have hit him harder, just to promote “Rock N Roll Jesus.”
