Kid Rock has plead not guilty to a charge of battery stemming from an October incident at a Waffle House in Atlanta, when he was arrested after he and members of his entourage were allegedly involved in a scuffle.
Kid Rock did not appear in court Monday and had his attorney, Darryl Cohen, enter the not guilty plea on his behalf in DeKalb County State Court, the Associated Press reports.
The 37-year-old rapper-rocker was arrested on October 21, along with five members of his entourage, on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery, after a brouhaha at a Waffle House in Atlanta, following a performance at The Tabernacle.
According to reports at the time, a fight erupted after one of the restaurant’s customers approached a woman in Kid Rock’s group. Some kind of exchange of words occurred, soon followed by an exchange of fists.
Kid Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that same week and explained that he had not caused the brawl and that he was in fact provoked.
The musician had played a similar tune earlier that year, when he and Motley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee caused a bit of a scene during the 2007 MTV Music Awards, on Sept. 9 in Las Vegas.
Pamela Anderson’s exes apparently crossed paths during the show; Tommy Lee supposedly provoked Rock, who backhanded the drummer. Lee was escorted out of the room by security guards while Rock enjoyed the rest of the show.
Kid was cited for misdemeanor battery, but Lee eventually dropped the charges.
Kid Rock embarks on another leg of the “Rock and Roll Revival Tour” this week, with concerts scheduled in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky, among others. He will also be touring in Europe.
He was recently confirmed to be appearing at the Download Festival in Donington, UK in June.
