Kid Rock Arrested after Waffle House Fight

Breakfast at the Waffle House in DeKalb County, Georgia, was not the expected peaceful meal for Kid Rock Sunday, as he and his entourage allegedly beat up a man, according to media reports.

The musician and his five companions were arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery at 5:15 a.m., reports Reuters. Rock, real name Robert James Ritchie, was released later Sunday after posting a $1,000 bond. According to the Associated Press, he spent 12 hours in jail, posting the bond around 5 p.m.

“Rock and five members of his entourage were charged with one count of battery, which is a misdemeanor. The victim ... was treated and released at a local hospital for his injuries,” Mekka Parish, spokeswoman for DeKalb police, said.

Rock had performed at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, authorities said, and stopped at the Waffle House restaurant shortly after 5 a.m. The customer that was hit recognized a woman in Kid Rock’s group and talked to her, Parish told the AP.

The man, identified by MTV.com as Harlem DeJon Akins, was charged with criminal damage to property, a felony, Parish said. At some point during the fight he reportedly smashed a restaurant window.

Kid Rock’s most recent studio album, “Rock n Roll Jesus,” scored the first No. 1 album of the singer’s career on Wednesday, selling 172,000 copies. It was the rapper/rocker’s first No. 1 in 17 years of career - his previous four albums made it in the Top 10 chart, with 2000’s “The History of Rock” peaking at No. 2.

Rock was involved in another fight in September, at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas when he and Motley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee came face to face. The two men, both former husbands of Pamela Anderson, were involved in a scuffle that seems to have hurt Lee more than it did Rock.

Kid Rock has said that, had he known the incident would attract such attention prior to the release of “Rock N Roll Jesus,” he would have thrown in some more punches.
