Keanu Reeves has been known for his peculiar performance choices. From Neo, the “chosen” hacker in “Matrix”, to the supernatural investigator who has been to Hell and back in “Constantine”, he is usually the dark, ominous hero that damsels in distress always fall for.
His latest role incorporates a bit of his past performances, as it implies both the technology in “The Matrix” and the supernatural aspects in “Constantine”.
The movie Keanu Reeves stars in is a remake of a 1951 science-fiction movie, called “The Day The Earth Stood Still”. The timing of the remake could not be more appropriate, given the pressure people are facing regarding the continuous destruction of our planet.
“The Day The Earth Stood Still” is a cinematographic reminder that we must start to take warnings seriously and start changing our lifestyle before there’s no life left to live.
The movie follows the story of an alien, Klaatu, played by Keanu Reeves, an alien with surprisingly human-like features. Klaatu lands his spherical spaceship in Washington D.C., with his mind set on meeting with the leaders of the United Nations, as the latter decide to announce the world that our reckless behavior is not only affecting our planet and its inhabitants, but it also affects and has disastrous consequences on other civilizations.
Being denied access to the United Nations’ leaders, he decides to destroy mankind, yet this plan too is hindered after he bonds with Dr. Helen Benson and her son, Jacob Benson. The latter two manage to show Klaatu the good side of the Earthlings.
