Kazakh supermodel Ruslana Korshunova apparently killed herself Saturday by plunging from her Manhattan apartment. Although the death was not officially ruled a suicide, the police said that there are no traces of a struggle. There are also witnesses who claim they saw Korshunova leaping into the void to her immediate death.
The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. at a Water Street building in Manhattan, where Korshunova owned an apartment on the ninth floor. She was only 20 and would have been 21 on July 2. The blonde, green-eyed top model was well known for her beautiful, fairy-tale like face and amazing, long, chestnut locks.
She was 5'8.5" tall and people around her told several press outlets that the model was always smiling and seemed a very good person who did not appear to have any problems with depression.
Ruslana Korshunova was discovered in 2003 by Debbie Jones, the senior booker at Models 1, a London-based modeling agency. She subsequently appeared on the cover of the French magazine Elle in 2005 and on the cover of Vogue in Russia and Poland.
Ruslana Korshunova was represented by the powerful agency IMG, which also handles other top models such as Heidi Klum and Kate Moss. She spoke fluently Russian, German and English.
