Rapper Kayne
West was arrested on Thursday at Los
Angeles International
Airport after he had a
fight with the paparazzi that surrounded him as soon as he entered the airport.
Kayne West lost its temper and grabbed the paparazzo’s camera, smashing it to
the ground. The police arrested the rapper together with his manager, Don Crowley,
at about 8 a.m.
They were to
be investigated for felony vandalism and the prosecutors are expected to decide
the charges they might face. Still, Kayne West was released from police custody
on Thursday afternoon but his lawyer, Blair Berk, couldn’t say anything about
what had happened.
The rapper
and his manager were taken to a nearby Los Angeles Police Department station to
be interviewed. Kayne West then left the police station in the afternoon in a
black Chevrolet Suburban, trying to keep himself away from the paparazzo’s
flashes.
The video made by some other paparazzi at the airport
shows Kayne West and his manager pulling the camera from the paparazzo’s hands,
while he is screaming “Police! Police! Help me!” Crowley smashes the camera to the ground and
Kayne West throws down a flash. After this incident, Crowley tried to grab the camera from the guy
who was filming the scene and broke it before the security arrived.
Because the
video starts exactly from the moment of the altercation, nothing in it could
shows us what started the fight in the first place. Marshall Lowe, the Los Angeles International
Airport spokesman, told the Associated
Press that the rapper and his manager had booked a flight to Honolulu, Hawaii,
on Thursday morning. When the fight began, the two hadn’t even arrived to a
screening checkpoint.
Charles
Davis, a man who solicits charity donations inside the airport and witnessed
the fight, said that the rapper was attacked by the paparazzi and all that the
singer wanted to do was to defend himself. “The man just put the camera too
close to his face. I don't blame him," Davis added.
The charity
man said that he talks to Kayne West all the time and that he is a good man who
helps the children by giving donations all the time. “He’s a good, kind heart,”
Davis told the
Associated Press adding that he didn’t believe that the camera was destroyed.
"It was just knocked out of the man's hand," he said.
Kayne West,
31, has won nine Grammy Awards since he started his musical career and became a
record producer for most rap and R&B stars. His debut album, “The College
Dropout” was released in 2004. Since then he got his second album “Late Registration”
in 2005 and his third one, “Graduation,” in 2007. The rapper gained fame,
critical responses and many awards for the three albums.
The Grammy
Awarded also has his own record label called “GOOD Music,” through which he
succeeded in producing hit singles for Jay-Z, Alicia Keys and Janet Jackson.
Kayne West had a fight with MTV after he didn’t win any award after seven
nominations last year at the VMA. But he performed this year too and so he made
his reconciliation with the network. What would be an artist without publicity
of any kind?
