Katie Holmes to Debut on Broadway

“Dawson’s Creek” alumna Katie Holmes will join John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson on Broadway this fall, in a stage revival of Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.”

Hollywood actress Katie Holmes will try a daring move this fall as she makes her Broadway debut in a revival of Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning play “All My Sons.”

Producer Eric Falkenstein said Monday Holmes would take the stage with John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. The exact dates as well as the theater are to be announced.

“All My Sons” opened on Broadway at the Coronet Theatre in New York City in January 1947 and was awarded the 1947 Tony Award for Best Play. It was directed by Elia Kazan, to whom it is dedicated, and starred Ed Begley, Beth Miller, Arthur Kennedy, and Karl Malden. It was Miller’s first Broadway success.

Holmes will portray a woman who visits her dead fiancé’s parents (portrayed by Lithgow and Wiest). Wilson will portray the surviving son, an idealistic young man who has fallen in love with his late brother’s sweetheart.

“All My Sons” was turned into a 1948 film, starring Edward G. Robinson, Burt Lancaster and Mady Christians, and a 1986 made-for-TV film, starring James Whitmore, Aidan Quinn, Michael Learned and Joan Allen.

Simon McBurney, artistic director of the British theater company Complicite, will direct the revival. “All My Sons” was last performed on Broadway in 1987.

Holmes kick started her acting career as the quiet and studious Joey Potter in television drama series “Dawson’s Creek,” which aired on the WB from 1998 to 2003.

Among her more recent movie parts, Holmes costarred with Christian Bale in 2005’s “Batman Begins” and last year’s comedy “Mad Money,” with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah.

Holmes does not return in this summer’s “The Dark Knight.”
