Katie Couric Doubtful About Her Move To CBS

CBS news anchor Katie Couric admitted in a recent interview that her move from NBC’s morning show "Today" to CBS wasn’t as inspired as she hoped.

New York magazine’s latest issue featuring Katie Couric’s picture on the cover contains an article in which she spoke her mind about her decision to leave NBC for CBS where she became the first woman to anchor the news alone.

"Of course," she said in the interview with the magazine. "I'm human. I'm not going around `dee-da dee-da dee.' I have days when I'm like, `Oh my God, what did I do?' But for some weird reason, they don't happen that often."

"I still believe I did the right thing, in my heart," she added.

Couric replaced Dan Rather following a series of male anchors including Walter Cronkite and legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow.

"If it turns out it wasn't a perfect fit," she said, "then you know, I'll do something else that's really exciting and fulfilling."

Since her debut night in September last year, the audience dropped to half, from 13 million people who watched her for the first time, to as low as 5.5 million in May this year.

"One thing that I realized, looking back at it and analyzing it, is people are very unforgiving and very resistant to change," 50-year-old Couric revealed, "The biggest mistake we made is we tried new things."

And while ratings continue to drop, the pressure piled up to the point when she accidentally slapped news editor Jerry Cipriano on the arm for using the word ''sputum'' during a tuberculosis story last month.

"I got mad at him and said, 'You can't do this to me. You have to tell me when you're going to use a word like that,' '' Couric said. ''I was aggravated, there's no question about that. I sort of slapped him around,'' she said.
