What happens during CNN’s New Year’s Eve telecast does not stay with the channel. Although Kathy Griffin’s obscene remarks were taken off from the rebroadcast by CNN, the full video is available on YouTube, as nothing can escape the popular Web site.

 

The “My Life on the D-List” star got into a pickle early on Thursday morning while she was co-hosting the CNN special telecast of Times Square on New Year’s Eve along with Anderson Cooper.

 

Kathy Griffin began throwing not-so-positive comments with regard to a heckler, but, unfortunately for her, the moment was captured live on the channel, as the telecast was still going on. In spite of the fact that as soon as the offending exchange started, Anderson Cooper tried to introduce a commercial break and cameras had shifted to show revelers walking along Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Kathy Griffin’s voice failed to weaken and she was heard delivering a couple of unpleasant and nasty observations.

 

Immediately after the offensive comments had been made, the channel went into a commercial, but one could do nothing to repair the damage that had already been done.

 

“We recognize that the comment made by comedian Kathy Griffin during the live broadcast was inappropriate. She did not know she was on the air at the time, and we removed it from the rebroadcast,” said a CNN spokeswoman in a statement.

 

Kathy Griffin is known for her use of bad language, even during live events. In 2007, she made an improper remark while accepting an Emmy for “D-List” and her mention offended several Christian groups.

 

CNN is unlikely to be endangered by the incident because there are no FCC rules with regard to cable obscenity.
