Kate Winslet has done her best. Even with avoiding shedding any tears. However, she did open up with a plain commemoration of standing in front of the mirror at the age of 8 and pretending that her shampoo bottle was an Oscar statuette. As she delivered her acceptance speech for the best actress Academy Award for her performance in “The Reader,” the 33-year-old actress affirmed merrily, “Well, it’s not a shampoo bottle now!”

 

With regard to her fellow nominees, Kate Winslet explained, “I think we can’t all believe we’re in the same category as Meryl Streep at all.” In addition, when addressing to the latter, she added, “I’m sorry, Meryl, you just have to suck that up.”

 

Initially nominated for an Oscar at the early age of 21, the actress failed to win until this year, when she saw her sixth Academy Award nod.

In spite of the fact that she managed to stay far on Sunday night from her teary Golden Globe acceptance speeches, she had explained earlier on the red carped that she was “scared” and “nervous” and that she was striving to “calm down.”

 

Previous nominations Kate Winslet did not manage to benefit from included a best actress nod for “Titanic” in 1998.

 

The actress paid tribute to the helmer of “The Reader,” director Stephen Daldry, saying there had been “no division between the cast and the crew on this film and that’s what made it so special.|

 

Kate Winslet won the Oscar race against fellow nominees Meryl Streep for “Doubt,” Anne Hathaway for “Rachel Getting Married,” Angelina Jolie for “Changeling” and Melissa Leo for “Frozen River.”
