Academy Award nominated actress Kate Winslet posed
seductively for Vanity Fair’s new issue only to have the British media point a
finger at her that the pictures have had serious airbrushing done.
Kate Winslet confesses to Vanity Fair in its new issue that
she still feels like “the fat kid” she once was, while in the photo spread channeling
French actress Catherine Deneuve’s notorious character Belle de Jour, a young
housewife filling her free time with prostitution.
British papers were quick to reply she still is that kid.
The Daily Mail for example enlisted the help of a professional airbrush artist
to weigh in on the genuineness of Winslet’s photos, with the said professional
declaring that the pics had been retouched plentifully to make the actress look
as perfect as she did.
A representative for Winslet told People magazine that
Winslet felt “furious” about the speculation and that she is in fact in “terrific
shape.” The only retouching to have taken place is on skin tone, which is the
standard for every photo shoot, the rep said. “What you see is how she looks or
she would never have agreed to pose for those shots.”
Winslet also tells Vanity Fair that she never had a desire
to be famous because she could never imagine herself a famous actress: “I
didn’t know of any fat famous actresses. I just did not see myself in that
world at all, and I’m being very sincere. You know, once a fat kid, always a
fat kid.”
The actress adds that sometimes she looks at other women
around town – she lives in Manhattan
with husband Sam Mendes and children Mia and Joe – and thinks to herself that
she should try harder to look as thin and trendy as them, only to think, “They
can’t be happy in those heels.”
