Kate McCann broke down during her first television
appearance after she was named a suspect in the disappearance of her
four-year-old daughter, Madeleine, six months ago.
The appearance was made Wednesday night on Spanish TV,
Antena 3. The grieving parents went with a Spanish channel instead of choosing
well known shows such as Oprah Winfrey or Barbara Walters’, because they still
believe that Madeleine is somewhere in Spain, Portugal, or North Africa. They
ask people who know anything about their daughter in that region to call +34
902 300213.
According to media sources, Kate McCann became very
emotional towards the end of the interview. She said regarding her daughter that
“I feel sad and I feel lonely and our life is not as happy without Madeleine. I
feel anxious she is not with us.”
The cameras were stopped in order for her to recover. Kate appeared in the interview, which was recorded on
Tuesday night, along with her husband Gerry, at the advice of the private
investigators in Spain.
When asked about the last time she saw her daughter the
tearful mother said: “She was very happy and very loving and I know Madeleine
was very happy with her life. She is special.”
Mrs. McCann still believes her daughter is alive and thinks
that she may be held by someone in their house.
Madeleine went missing on May 3 from the family’s holiday
apartment in Praia da Luz in Algarve,
southern Portugal,
while her parents were dining nearby with friends. She was sharing a room with
her twin two-year-old siblings.
The parents rejected in the interview allegations that they
could have given their children sedatives.
At the beginning of September, the McCanns were named
suspects, but they were not charged. The Portuguese media made various
speculations including one that the parents could have given Madeleine an
overdose of sedatives accidentally killing her.
The McCanns have denied those accusations. They repeatedly
said that they believe she was kidnapped. The Portugal police cannot deny that
possibility and plans to travel to Britain to re-interview the seven
friends who dined with the McCanns on the night that Madeleine disappeared.
Gerry is confident about the innocence of their friends as
well as Kate.
One other suspect is Robert Murat, who was made suspect 12
days after Madeleine’s disappearance. He was living near the resort complex
where the McCanns were staying.
