Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson proved once again that
nothing is what it seems. After three months of romance that seemed to be
getting more and more serious, the couple unexpectedly split last weekend, an
insider told Us Weekly.
“There was no drama or ugliness. They just decided to end
things,” the source said. “There is no hatred, just sadness.”
The 29-year-old actress and the Tour de France champion, 36,
were first spotted together canoodling Austin, Texas, last May and shortly
after, they showed up together at several events, snuggling and looking happy. Wherever they went, in the brief time they were a couple, the two seemed happy to pose for photographs, creating a paparazzi frenzy.
Hudson also accompanied Armstrong at several of his charity
events. In June, the two traveled together to Canada, on a fund-raising bike,
to help raise over $1 billion for cancer research. The donations were used for
cancer treatment for two hospitals near Waterloo, Ontario: Grand River Hospital
in Kitchener and Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
Before the race, Hudson and Armstrong, who has won the
battle with testicular cancer in the past, went on a romantic trip in Muskoka,
a northern Ontario summer holiday enclave where Hudson’s mother Goldie Hawn
owns a cabin. Hudson introduced Armstrong to her mother very soon after she
started dating him, and she was also acquainted with the cyclist’s family.
Armstrong also seemed close to Ryder, Hudson’s 4-year-old
son. He was photographed holding Ryder’s hand on the street, after they had had
a Father’s Day brunch at Frankie’s Spuntino in Carroll Gardens, together with
Hudson, her husband of five years Chris Robinson, and Armstrong’s children: Luke, who is
eight years old, and twins Grace and Isabelle, who are six year old.
Hudson also spent some time with Armstrong’s children while
he prepared for the Canada charity event.
The two seemed to share the same tastes in music as well, as
they were spotted in their way to see Iron Maiden, who were performing in
Madison Square Garden in June.
But all good things come to an end, some things faster than
others. And it seems the two decided to part ways at the cyclist's three-day
Lance Armstrong Livestrong Summit in Columbus, Ohio.
Armstrong’s publicist refused to comment on the matter Wednesday,
Us Weekly informs, while Hudson’s rep was unavailable.
Before dating Armstrong, Hudson had a very intense, on-and-off
relationship with Owen Wilson, which is one of Armstrong’s best friends. Even
after splitting with Wilson, the actress seemed to be in good terms with him,
and the two were often spotted together having fun. They got together for
Easter in Miami, where they were seen riding bikes with the actress' son,
having coffee and picking up some videos at a local store, and Hudson also
celebrated her 29th birthday with Wilson by her side. Rumors started
spreading that the two actors were rekindling their relationship, but Hudson put
an end to them when she started her romance with Armstrong.
The Tour de France winner was previously married to Kristin Richard, the mother of his three children, and was also involved in a three-year relationship with Sheryl Crow.
