Kanye’s Public Outburst of Grief

Kanye West’s fast return on the stage just days after his mother’s sudden death left no room for grieving causing him to break down in tears while performing in Paris on Saturday.

After he cancelled his appearance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Thursday, the rapper launched a European tour in Paris on Saturday, but broke down in tears after performing for an hour.

Approaching the end of the show, with the riff of "Hey Mama" beginning, Kanye couldn’t conceal his emotions as he introduced the tribute to a sold-out crowd saying "this song is for my mother...."

In a video of the scene posted on YouTube, fans can be heard cheering Kanye’s name while band mates approached and consoled him.

"A back-up singer and the DJ came over to him and basically held him up. He was visibly very upset," a concertgoer said.

"He just cracked," one attendee was quoted by People as saying, "He was at the end of his concert and had just started to dedicate the song and then he just lost it completely."

"He said the word, 'Mother' and just couldn't go any further," Le Parisien journalist Meddy Magloire told the mag. "A back-up singer, the DJ and a guitar player came over to console him. It looked like he might collapse. He just couldn't continue. He just stood there in a spotlight, crying while the band continued playing."

Despite the crowd’s applause and the band’s attempt to replay the song, the rapper left the stage and returned shortly after to wrap up the show with a rousing performance of "Stronger."

"He was very nervous, seemed to have gathered himself up, and had a lot of energy," Magloire added. "He kept shouting out to the audience, 'I need you... I need you right now.' and the public was screaming back. It was magic."

Kanye is next scheduled to perform in Brussels on Sunday, but he is expected to return to the United States for his mother's funeral in Oklahoma City on Tuesday before returning to Europe for another performance on Thursday.

Since his mother, whom he was very close to, passed away on November 10, a day after undergoing plastic surgery, the 30-year-old artist made no public appearances, not even at the memorial service held at the Chicago State University, where Donda was a faculty member for 24 years.
