Hip-hop star Kanye West has had yet another unpleasant
encounter with freelance photographers and yet another arrest, this time in Newcastle, England
and is expressing his frustration with the paparazzi in his blog.
Kanye West is currently performing in the U.K. as part of
his Glow in the Dark tour and a night out last week ended with Kanye having a
bloody encounter with a paparazzo and then being arrested after the alleged
victim filed a complaint.
Freelance photographer Terry Blackburn recounted the
incident to BBC 1Xtra like he had just been minding his own business outside
the Tup Tup Palace
club when the rapper pushed the camera into his face, leaving his nose “cut
open.” Kanye describes the incident as “bogus” on his blog and complains that
the paps “are above the law” while “the people they shoot are under it.”
He was arrested early Friday morning, hours after the
incident had taken place, on suspicion of assault, taken to a police station
and subsequently released without charge. The artist explained on his blog that
the police officers were “cordial” and said they had to arrest him because a
complaint had been filed but that they knew this was a “stunt” on the
photographer’s part.
Kanye also says he did not assault the man and that he finds
it unfair to have his reputation tarnished when he was not at fault. Although
he was not charged and although he had not assaulted anyone, “All that mattered
was that I was arrested,” he wrote, referring to the attention lavished on the
scuffle by the media.
Kanye West has had trouble with shutterbugs before. In
September, he was accused of damaging a photographer’s camera during a run-in
at Los Angeles International Airport.
The alleged altercation has not led to a charge against him either.
Stating that he is not a celebrity but merely a normal
person who happens to be famous, he brought to his readers’ attention the fact
that “the paps killed Princess Diana” and that it would be “common courtesy”
for someone to ask for permission before taking your photograph.
