Kanye West Sells More Than Guns ‘N Roses

One of the most awaited albums from the heavy rock scene couldn’t beat Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak in terms of sales. The rappers album sold 450,000 copies in the week that ended Sunday, topping Chinese Democracy with 200,000 copies. Though it is a matter of taste and musical preference and the two have nothing in common, it clearly shows what kind of music the general public prefers and that Chinese Democracy isn’t that popular after all.

Speaking strictly in terms of sales, this comes as an absolute shock as Guns ‘n Roses’ album was in the making for so many years and it is surrounded by so many myths and stories that it seemed obvious that people will be curious enough to buy it.

The last album produced by the legendary rock band, Use Your Illusion I and II, sold 685,000 and 770,000 copies 17 years ago, when the band was on the peak of popularity.

Fans definitely miss the old Guns ‘N Roses, a band that stood out through rebellious spirits and beautiful music, and maybe the new approach Axl tried on Chinese Democracy just doesn’t appeal to their fan base. On the other hand, the recent sales data clearly shows that Kanye West is indeed very talented and appeals to a very large number of people.

The rapper is the winner of ten Emmy awards and he is currently running his own record label, cleverly entitled GOOD Music. Kanye West has released three albums, “The College Dropout”, “Late Registration” and “Graduation”, all of them being very successful and being praised by music critics. Knaye West is also well known for his acts of revolting against the system and speaking his mind, no matter the consequences.
