Kanye Complains On His Behalf and Britney's

Rapper Kanye West says MTV “misled” and “betrayed” him and allowed Britney Spears to perform when she was in no good condition to do so.

Sunday was the much hyped-about day when Britney Spears, who has been going from one highly publicized unflattering situation to another, would make her comeback. MTV promised that Britney would “kill” the Video Music Awards ceremony taking place in Las Vegas that night.

Now, after the singer’s confusing and disastrous appearance, many are wondering if perhaps this has actually killed her career. Last week, VMA executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic said: “You can expect the things we want and expect from Britney, that will all be there … She'll be dancing, performing, doing her thing. That's exactly what we all want.”

“She'll kill it,” he added. “She'll captivate everyone, and set the tone for the rest of the night. There's no one better.”

Sunday night however, Britney appeared confused and out of place. Scantily dressed, barely doing her dance moves and lip-synching quite badly, the singer was widely criticized after her painful to watch minutes on stage.

Kanye West reacted harshly and publicly the following day, accusing MTV of having exploited Britney and “misled” him.

“They exploited Britney in helping to end her career,” West told DJ JJ at New York radio station Z100 on Monday. “When Britney was opening [the VMA telecast], near the end, I felt so bad for her. I said, ‘Man, it's a dirty game. This game will chew you up and spit you out.’”

The rapper continued by saying he was displeased with the way MTV organized the other artists’ performances. While Britney performed on the main stage, Kanye and other singers and bands played from a private suite, for small groups of fans, with the music channel airing only fragments of the shows.

“I wasn't mad that I just didn't win any awards,” Kanye said, who lost the Male Artist of the Year title to Justin Timberlake. “For me, [MTV] made it seem like performing on the main stage was a bad thing, and the suites were just so great.”

The rapper concluded that he felt “betrayed” by the network and promised not to collaborate with them again. “I just feel like I got betrayed by them. I feel like they tried to make it seem like I was so into everything that was going on in the show.”

He added that he had already cancelled planned appearances on TRL to promote his new album “Graduation.”

Britney’s critics have been harsh and merciless, among the first being comedienne Sarah Silverman, who took the stage after the singer. “She is amazing. She is 25 years old and has already accomplished everything she is going to accomplish in her life,” Silverman said.

Considering what troubles Britney has been having lately, perhaps it is not that much of a surprise that she doesn’t seem ready yet to put all her energy into singing and dancing and generally satisfying public demands.

MTV has not replied to Kanye’s accusations yet.
