Kansas: Man Has Nail Removed from His Head

Unusual things happen to ordinary people. George Chandler, an ordinary man from Kansas, was doing some work around his house with one of his friends, when he got a nail to his head.

According to the New York Daily News, Friday, Chandler was at his house, building a lattice for his wife with one of his friends. Because the nail gun had some problems, his friend tried to fix it. Unfortunately the gun went off and, by mistake, shot a 2-inch nail into Chandler’s head.

I have always said that a hammer is safer.

The two men initially thought that they had lost one nail, only to find it safe in Chandler’s head. Although the man was unlucky to get a nail into his head, he was lucky that the nail didn’t cause him damage.

There was no pain involved, not even blood, just a “little sting,” said Chandler, according to the Kansas City Star. The 60-year-old man was taken to a hospital to have the nail removed. Tuesday afternoon he was doing fine and he even appeared on the “Today” show to tell his story.

The doctors told him that, fortunately, the nail missed the eyesight, speech and physical movement vessels. Larry Jackson, chief of the injury surveillance team at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health said that about 100 to 400 people each year suffered this kind of injuries.

After arriving at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Chandler underwent a CAT scan and was taken to intensive care. He underwent surgery some time later.

They were all glad that nothing bad had happened. His friend, Kern, a semiretired contractor, said he was “grateful” his friend was safe, reported the Kansas City Star. He got lucky.

My advice to you, in case you don’t feel very lucky, is to use a hammer.
